7000 feet long stretch undertaken in first phase

A long Cherished dream of the residents to resection and De-Silt the Sukhna Rivulet has come true as the work is going on war footing to complete it before monsoon.
The Rivulet carries the surplus storm water from Sukhna and meets the Ghaggar river at Bhankharpur after crossing Baltana (Zirakpur) area.
Divulging details, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain who monitors the progress on a day to day basis, said that De-Silting and resectioning of 7000 feet have been undertaken in the first phase. The Rivulet that is the major source of draining out excess storm water of Sukhna meets Ghaggar river at Bhankharpur bridge. Presently, the Rivulet bed has gathered a silt of 6-7 feet that creats hurdle in smooth flow of water. Due to the silt, the adjoining population also remains on stake in rainy season, she added.
Problem of overflow of Rainy Water near Baltana (Zirakpur) to be resolve
Ongoing project of cleaning and resectioning of Sukhna Choe (Rivulet ) has been undertaken for the first time as an important flood protection work, she said while adding that the Choe was in dire need of di-silting to carry storm water at its full capacity of 6000-7000 cusec feet. The project worth Rs one crore is near completion and the deadline has been fixed as June 30, she added.
Directing the Executive Engineer Drainage cum Mining and Geology Division, Rajat Grover, she also stressed on the need of timely completion of the cleanliness and resectioning work of Sukhna Choe to avert flood-like situations in the wake of the ensuing monsoon.
She asked the SDM Derabassi, Himanshu Gupta to oversee the De-Silting work regularly so that the residents could be kept safe from the flood like situation.
